Swan Hill Country Music Walk Up’s for 2017 was an outstanding success with entries being up 50% on last year and the Nyah Football/Cricket Club venue filled to almost capacity. A problem with the venue being all but filled to capacity is the acoustics. . As a result of this huge problem that affected all artists and patrons we were forced to find an alternative location.
At the Tooleybuc Club they welcomed us to the use their venue. We retain full control of the weekends activities as was the case at Nyah, however, we now have a proper stage and a venue that is much better suited for our purpose. There is heaps of sites available for caravans and tents (mostly unpowered) with showers and toilets available outside the club itself, and also limited motel accommodation. We do regret our move as far as the people of Nyah and Nyah West are concerned as they did their best to look after us and we did appreciate their efforts. Part of this year’s entertainment includes a tour and wine tasting at Andrew Peace Winery on the Thursday the 11th October at 2pm prior to the event starting at around 4pm on the 12th October. We are providing a bus to shuttle people to and from the Winery.
This year’s Swan Hill Country Music Walk Up’s saw a massive increase in the number of Walk Up’s and people attending to listed to them. The quality of the Walk Up’s was excellent and we could see great improvement in many of the people who sang last year. This of course is exactly what this Festival is all about. The Club room was at capacity on Saturday afternoon.
As a result of this and problems with the acoustics when so many people are crowded into a long and narrow room, the committee decided to investigate a new venue. We will therefore be holding our 2018 “Walk Up’s” at the Tooleybuc Sporting Club, where we have organised plenty of room for caravan etc within the club grounds and across the road in the Tooleybuc Recreation Reserve. Showers and toilets are open 24/7 and kept spotlessly clean by staff. A Motel is also available within the grounds as are a tennis court and golf course for those so inclined. Fees for next year are: Friday night $5, Saturday $15, Sunday $5 or a weekend pass $20.
The hugely popular “wind up” party will still be held and an ideal spot has been selected. When doing this we had to remember that over 60 people joined in the party this year, which was once again one of the “highlights” of the weekend. We had people attend from almost all over Australia, I think NT was the only territory not represented. So, put the following dates in your diary for 2018, 12th to 14th of October, the weekend following the conclusion of Mildura. Our sincere appreciation to Rod & Rhonda and Larry & Wendy for the great job they did in running the Walk Up’s Friday night and Saturday and Sunday respectively, also Brian Barker, Wally Parkes and Kathy Hird for their backing music and Colin Oven for his work on the mixer.
